Painter rate reference
Source checked: 29 September 2026. These published figures are planning references, not a quote for your home. “Labour only” and “interior painting cost” mean different things. Ask a local painter exactly what products, preparation, coats, ceilings, taxes and cleanup are included.
Labour-only reference by job
Asian Paints' published India guide puts painting labour around ₹8–₹25 per sq ft for typical jobs, with texture work potentially above that. It breaks this down as follows:
| Work | Published labour reference |
|---|---|
| Basic repainting | ₹8–₹12 / sq ft |
| Fresh interior painting | ₹12–₹18 / sq ft |
| Premium finish | ₹18–₹25 / sq ft |
| Texture or designer finish | ₹25+ / sq ft |
City references: interior painting total
The same guide gives these overall interior painting cost ranges. They combine job conditions and materials; do not enter them in RangVault's labour-only field as if they were a painter's wage.
| City | Published interior painting cost |
|---|---|
| Bengaluru | Basic ₹14–₹22 / sq ft; premium ₹25–₹45 / sq ft |
| Mumbai | ₹15–₹40 / sq ft |
| Delhi | ₹12–₹35 / sq ft |

Use a rate in your estimate
In the paint calculator, replace the example painter rate with a labour-only price from your own written quote. Check whether the rate applies to paintable wall area, floor area or the full job; these lead to very different totals. Ask for a line-by-line breakdown of preparation, primer, putty, coats, ceiling, materials and GST.
